In 1931 Australia, three Aboriginal girls are taken from their families under government policy and sent far away to be trained for domestic work. Refusing to accept their fate, they escape into the Outback and attempt an exhausting journey home, using a long rabbit-proof fence as their guide while authorities try to find them.
