In 1947, the last British leader in India arrives at a grand official residence to oversee the transfer of power. As political negotiations unfold upstairs, hundreds of Hindu, Muslim, and Sikh staff live and work downstairs, where everyday relationships strain under rising religious tension and the looming division of a nation.
