Over 1.15 million people gathered on the National Mall for what organizers declared the largest protest in U.S. history — the March for Women's Lives. Armed with her Sony digital camera and a press pass, San Diego documentarian Patty Mooney positioned herself front and center at the main stages to capture the speeches and performances of that defining day. Participants protested the recently passed Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003 and policies they believed to be anti-women. Among the voices captured on film: Whoopi Goldberg, Gloria Steinem, Susan Sarandon, Julianne Moore, Carole King, Ashley Judd, Ani DiFranco, Moby, Madeleine Albright, Barbara Boxer, Kathleen Turner, Janeane Garofalo, Kathy Najimy, Cybill Shepherd, Sarah Weddington, Peter Yarrow, Bethany Yarrow, and many more. Originally shot in 2004 and remastered in high definition ahead of Women's History Month 2024 — with Roe v. Wade overturned and reproductive rights once again under threat, the film carries renewed urgency. Written, directed, produced, and edited by Patty Mooney of Crystal Pyramid Productions.
