I Was Born, But...

The first of Yasujirō Ozu's films to win Kinema Junpo's Best Film of the Year, and one of the most beloved silent comedies ever made. When their family moves to the Tokyo suburbs, two young brothers take on the neighborhood bullies and win, only to be shattered when they see their salaryman father bowing and clowning for his boss. Their answer is a hunger strike. A funny, tender, and surprisingly profound look at childhood and class, later remade by Ozu as Good Morning. IMDb 8.0. Free with ads.
