27 JENNIFERS views the notions of traditional friendship through a particularly unconventional looking glass. What seems to be a pact at the start of the film, twists into chaos and ultimately challenges the relationship at the center of the story with a devastating decision they must make together. We meet Nate and Jennifer at their college graduation, the future stretching out before them. When they make a blood oath to meet every year on this day, their commitment is palpable. The problem is that due to a treatment for a health issue, Jennifer’s DNA has developed an unusual pattern. She can age fifty times the normal rate but also grow younger than she’s been in years. As actors of different ages portray Jennifer across her meetings with Nate, every hope and fear the two have ever had for each other and themselves is on full display. There may never have been a more uncertain relationship. It is literally a love story for the ages.
